Pycnogenol is a unique plant extract that originates from the bark of the maritime pine trees grown in sustainable forests in south-western France. Pycnogenol supplements, Bio-Pycnogenol from Pharma Nord contains French maritime bark (Pinus pinaster) which works as an antioxidant by protecting cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. It is a natural source of proathrocyanadins.

Free radicals are chemicals that are created by our own metabolism as well as from environmental factors such as smoking, air pollution and UV light exposure.

Scientific research demonstrates that Pycnogenol provides a multitude of health benefits which encompass heart and circulation, skin care, joint health, seasonal itchy eyes and runny nose, plus glucose control and menstrual discomfort.

Why Pharma Nord Bio-Pycnogenol:

  • Manufactured to pharmaceutical standards.
  • Scientific research demonstrates that Pycnogenol provides a multitude of health benefits.
  • Each tablet contains 40mg of Pycnogenol maritime pine bark extract in an easily absorbed form.
  • Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

What does Pycnogenol do?

Pycnogenol is a potent antioxidant, with an antioxidant activity approximately fifty times that of vitamin C. Because of the chemical structure of Pycnogenol, it can be incorporated into and protect both the aqueous (cytoplasmic) and lipid (cell memrane) phases of cells from damage by free radicals. Pycnogenol also promotes increased availability of vitamin C within the body.

Pycnogenol antioxidants are particularly effective for maintaining healthy functioning of blood vessels, and the eyes, as well as maintaining normal strength, flexibility and suppleness of the skin. Pycnogenol also helps maintain a normal response by the body to allergic or inflammatory challenge.

How much should you take?

Pharma Nord recommends the following...

First week: 2 tablets twice per day or as directed by a physician.

Thereafter: 1 tablet twice daily or as directed by a physician.

Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

The generally recommended intake for pine bark extract is 40-160mg per day. It is rapidly absorbed and distributed around the body in about 30 minutes.

I have suffered with hay fever for quite a few years, but it seemed to be getting worse. As well as my eyes feeling itchy and the constant urge to sneeze, my head felt really cloudy and it affected my concentration.

A colleague told me about a natural supplement called Bio-Pycnogenol and said it had really helped her with her symptoms. I started taking it about six weeks before the start of the hay fever season last year and couldn't quite believe the results.

I rarely experienced the hay fever symptoms I had the previous year and no longer had to rely on anti-histamines. I also have a cat allergy which was difficult as I have a cat! I've noticed that Bio-Pycnogenol has helped with this too.

I have recently bought Bio-Pycnogenol tablets to decrease the inflammatory response of my system and they worked almost immediately. I already noticed a marked improvement after one day of taking the tablets. Now my husband is taking them, too. They are fantastic!

I have just bought some more of your wonderful tablets. By combining exercise and a healthy diet with your products I can keep looking and feeling as good as possible. Bio-Pycnogenol makes me feel better and it's good for the blood and protection from cell stress. I'm happy with it. Thanks a lot.

I have to comment on my experience of your wonderful products, I am 62 ex service widow with few health conditions. Arthritis means i'm stiff as board and now I have Iritus which I take steroids for from eye hospital. Tina Turner again ,well I can feel the difference in myself more wide awake ,not quite as stiff, more positive mood and i'm sure this is your products, also good treatment of Bristol eye hospital. I began taking Bio-Pycnogenol earlier on this year after experiencing hayfever like symptoms, particularly itchy eyes and sneezing. Within a couple of weeks a really noticed an improvement and throughout the Summer I haven't had any further problems. I really believe it is all down to Bio-Pycnogenol

I have just found this product and I am about to start taking it to help reduce hot flushes, night time sweats due to the menopause. I will be back to let you know if this product has worked or not.

I take it primarily for the antioxidant benefits but since starting them I haven't had any sinus headaches, which I normally get a few times a year when the pollen count is high.

Deborah Boyle | 16/08/2013

No more itchy, scratchy eyes during hay-fever season - hooray!

M. Periklis | 06/06/2012

I first heard of this from my sister in law who suffered a mild stroke and it affected one of her eye muscles (orbis ocularis, the large muscle that surrounds the eye). It suffered some form of degeneration and desperate to find a natural remedy, she discovered pycnogenols and decided to give it a try. A year later she had a check up, and much to the disbelief amazement of her ophthalmologist, the muscle had rejuvenated to the point of near-perfect health, something he says he has never seen before. Also, her blood pressure and cholesterol levels had fallen dramatically, and this is the only supplement she takes.
I took it a week before a flight, and for a first time didn't get puffy ankles.
Definitely a very potent remedy.

I'm also impressed by Pycnogenol, it seems to offset some of the adverse symptoms when using Ramipril . I have Haemochromatosis which is an iron overload condition. Iron in excess causes free radical promotion, Pycnogenol can help offset these damaging effects being a powerful anti-oxidant.

Marie Wilson, Gateshead | 15/09/2011

I love cats and my best friend has eight of them, but I never touched them and sat on dining room chairs rather than the sofa when I visited to avoid coming into contact with cat hair.

Despite that I needed my inhaler three or four times whenever I visited and I'd still leave wheezy and puffy eyed.

Thankfully, my mum told me about Pycnogenol, which is a French pine bark extract that could help to ease asthma and allergies. I decided to give it a try and started taking the capsules twice a day.

The next time I visited my friend two weeks later I only had to use my inhaler once, which was a noticeable improvement.

I was still taking the supplement two months later and by then I could let the cats jump on my lap without feeling any ill effects.

Now almost a year later, I'm even contemplating getting my own cat!
